Rustroops Product No. 1
A boot shaped by the study of early American footwear.
The Idea
Product No.1 was not developed as a reproduction of a single vintage boot.
It has taken shape through the study of early American boots and lasts, repeated prototyping, wear testing, and comparison.
The aim is to understand the balance, structure, and utility found in those old boots, and reconstruct those qualities in a pair made to be worn today.
Selected Development Notes
The Last
Beginning with a vintage last marked “MUNSON LAST,” the form was developed through repeated prototyping, wear testing, measurement, and comparison, leading to the current Last No.3.
Riveted Shank
Product No.1 incorporates a steel shank fixed with rivets, a construction detail observed in original vintage boots.
Speed Hook
Existing hardware did not fully meet our requirements for scale, balance, and everyday use, so we developed a dedicated hook specifically for Product No.1.
Current Prototype
The fifth prototype represents the current form of Product No.1.
The fundamental proportions are now largely established, while selected details continue to be refined.
Retail Information
The first release of Product No.1 is planned in Japan in collaboration with BRYWB.
